I do believe that's the silliest post I've seen here in ages.

Re: Yurks

It is realism. Not the sort of thing one usually sees on a sensible literary Club like this one, but exactly the sort of thing one often says in real life.

That is what this Club needs at times. Gritty realism. Down-to-earth, slice-of-life talk. The sort of thing one says when has woken up in the morning makeupless, dishevelled and bouncing lightly on the bed.

Real kitchen sink drama, you know.

Re: Yurks

Yes, children: gritty realism, Aristasian-style: stark and depressing true-to-life tales of stockings laddered, mansions unpurchased, and yurks.

However do we find the strength to go on?

Re: Yurks

That is right. We are the Angry Young Women.

We are not the pampered middle-class literary types who live in flowery suburban gardens knowing nothing of the realities of life, like titles and landed estates.

We are not the bourgeois feminists who never get ladders in their stockings because they wear jeans all the time, and never have problems with their hair because they haven't got any.

We are the real people who live with the real problems of life.

And it's time our voice was heard.

Re: Yurks

What are yurks? Do they bear any relation to yikes?

Re: Yurks

I suppose yurks might be somewhat influenced by yikes, but I always think of it as a bit of a gulp, closely related to gleep or greep.

It could also be related to glurp, but that, of course can carry less pleasant associations.

Re: Yurks

Of course, in cases of extreme nervousness one might even say: "Yurks and yeebers!"

But you are thinking of really extreme circumstances here, aren't you?

12:08 AM, Annya? I'm sure you have an excellent explanation for why you were out of bed and on the ordinator so late, when you already have considerable scribbling to do for me...!
